As you may have guessed by now, I’m a writer

Actually there’s a little more to it than that, but “writer/content strategist/associate creative director/marketer/editor/proofreader” doesn’t really roll off the tongue, and let’s be honest, writing is what got me here. Well, that and my giant face, as seen at right.

I got my start almost three decades ago in an advertising & PR agency in the lovely Quad Cities of Iowa & Illinois where I broke in to public relations while balancing a writing gig for an alternative newsweekly. From there, I moved to Portland, Oregon, riding the dot-com wave as a writer & content coordinator at fledgling websites Creativepro.com and Air Charter Guide.

But hey — those big waves don’t last forever, and when the glorious excess of that one died away I made my way back to the Midwest, where I started a nearly 20-year career in educational publishing and learning technology with Pearson. That’s where I finally got to lean in to writing, and even picked up a few awards with my friends along the way. I handled everything from video scripts, print (remember that?), websites, blogs, and emails to training materials, company-wide style guides, branding and messaging frameworks, and full-funnel marketing campaigns.

A lot has changed during my time in the bigs. Social media is a thing. Offices are increasingly not. Bots are writing content. My hairline went on vacation and my daughters routinely beat me at everything. But I digress… No matter what else changes, you’re gonna need a pro to help strategize and create the content that makes sense for you and your audience.

If you’re looking for someone with more than two decades of experience, a good sense of humor (yeah, you need it), and well-rounded chops in copywriting, marketing, and all-around content strategy, we may be a match. Get in touch.
